Dry Matches

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

I got a comment about my last comic saying that it condoned smoking, but I don't, that is nonsense! You should also not lasso cats out of trees, if that doesn't go without saying. Historical smoking is another matter, go ahead and have a smoke in the trench, but I advise against lighting three cigarettes at night.

Remembrance Day always makes me ruminative about the place of history in our current consciences, because it is one of the few holidays where we are explicitly told listen you have to remember this thing that happened ok and, one, people pay attention, two, there is nothing jamming the line like bbq's or parties or football games or chocolate eggs or presents. History: You should give a shit, who knew.

Just so we are clear though, I don't really care about Queen Victoria's birthday either so go ahead and slam it back on May 24 weekend, fireworks and the whole bit. Honestly we should all get free corgis on Victoria Day.

EDIT: Holy crap I totally forgot I made this entry D=

Anyways, she is no longer doing the traced Icons, and is refunding anyone who has paid for them.

Not sure if I should keep this entry up or not, what do people here think? =[

The ~bouncing boobies~ ones I have no clue which anime it's from, and I can't find the GIF but I've definitely seen it before.

So yeah, just wanted to give a heads up! Sorry if she's been brought up before, I looked pretty far back in the archives but I could have missed an entry =]

He replied to my thread in the Job Services forum and asked me to draw a pair of cyborgs/androids for his paintball site. I happily agreed to draw for him and reminded him to check the pricing list and my ToS (in case he can't afford it or something, he can tell me and I can give him a small discount, it's my first commission). I sent him sketches for approval and everything went smoothly so far: I made some mistakes but I corrected them as soon as I can.

I completed the lineart for the (very rough) sketch I gave him, and sent him a screencap/low res preview of what I've done so far. He didn't respond for some days, which I find odd since he's been prompt with responses before. I send him an e-mail asking if he's received the preview.

Here's where the BEWARE part comes in. He tells me that he's "found a [sic] artist" - wait, what? He has been hiring others behind my back? At this point my scam radar goes nuts. He may not be paying the others for the work they're doing as well. Oh wait, he's suckered not just one, but  multiple artists.

I e-mailed him again, stating that he should pay everyone for whatever work they have already done.

This was the response I got and I'm not sure what to make of it.

ಠ_ಠ
Yes, I know I should have gotten him to pay first before doing anything, lesson learned, etc.
I'm posting this for a friend of mine since he was recently screwed over by this but was very unsure of what to do except sell his stuff to make the necessary funds to cover for the commission.

What do you do if you ask for a commission from someone and have already sent in your references (in hopes of hearing an estimated quote as a reply), and then find out a couple days later that the artist already finished the art and sent you a teaser pic AND a quote for the finished piece.

What would you do as the commissioner? What would be the more mature way to handle this?

~K.

::EDIT::
I'd like to edit this with some extra details that I have forgotten to mention before posting this.

My friend asked for a 2-character image. One of the characters was of an orb with a sigma symbol on it. The orb counted as an additional character ($45 value) according to the artist. He hadn't anticipated that his orb-character would cost so much which is why he's trying to sell his stuff to cover for the commission. The commission itself is already finished and ready to be sent to my friend upon receipt of the funds. I've only been told that the artist was "demanding" payment for the work he had already done on the image although there was no contract or negotiation.

I have been trying to get a hold of my friend and will get him to send me screenshots of all the communications that he and the artist shared regarding the commission so that this post won't sound like a "he said, she said" situation.

Also, I'd like to apologize for not adding this extra information before I had posted this. Please forgive my ignorance. ^^;

Midnight launch of Modern Warfare 2 went alright. Extremely busy. According to my boss who has worked a few big title releases, it was a bigger crowd/queue than he has ever seen before. Bigger than Halo 3, Gears of War 1+2, GTA4, bigger than anything. Impressive.

Tired but optimistic, a few days off in my future, which is always a good thing. I think I'm getting over the worst of the hormonal mood swings too, which is a blessing. Using new stuff in my hair, it smells AMAZING and clearly aimed at the short-hair guy market. Boy-smells are always nicer than girl-smells, you can keep your pansy flowersmelling perfumes that make me hack, aftershaves and musky, MAN-smells are where its at, yo.

Ok I'm a liar, I have a perfume from Matty that smells like apples, and thats the exception to the rule. :b
Wearing a zombie shirt today, heeee. I should really head off to lectures. Might head to Horror Soc tonight. Dunno what they're showing. o.o

Requests aren't done, they will be popping up as we go, but honestly I do not need annnyymooreee! I was looking at the Wonder Women that I drew last year and started drawing her again, because she's pretty fun to draw, and surly Wonder Woman here came out. Don't settle for being a tits and tits heroine ladies, be yourself! Poor Nibbles.

Am home for the weekend. Had.. a pretty shitty few days. A pretty fantastically shitty few days. So yeah, came home to warm house and warm bed and warm food. Got a good nights sleep and a lie in. Got up at half nine but it was still a pretty good lie in, compared to the last few mornings.
Was going through some stuff relationshipwise too. Nothing too world shattering, just wasnt helping on top of the rest of the other stuff. Bob was right, talking helps.
Due to ridiculous hours, got some ridiculous pay the other day. Getting even *more* in  a few weeks so all of this is pretty much disposable. Went into Teesside park with intent to buy xmas presents and such. Came home with new hair product, Xmas cards for the year and two Nerf shotguns. :D Would have preferred the repeater rifle but hey! They're so fun. We've been having kitchen skirmishes all day. We're so retarded.

Blahblah, I ramble. I'm putting out my call for Xmas cards *now* so that I can stick them in the post early for Overseas folks, postal strikes and all... I will also be confirming postal addresses with everyone because god knows if I have the right addresses for everyone. I have a quick list of folks I will be contacting for their info. If you wanna be added, comment! :) If you also know me through Uni, I'll just see you in person so no worries there. :P Emails will commence sending out tonight so.. yeah. ^.^ I like putting a bit of effort into Xmas cards since I really enjoy the holiday, and there will likely be art, so if you know me, are on my f-list, fancy a card from England, lemme know. :B

Well, I used a lot of the suggestions that came my way from that post the other day! I was pretty pleased with the turnout of readers for that question, I must admit. I guess it's because you hear a lot that people don't give a darn about history in this country, if depressing yearly polls from the Dominion Institute mean anything, but it's clearly not the case among my livejournal followers. You guys are great!

I had to do a general sweep that involved a good range of places, professions, backgrounds and time periods, so you know, not everyone's favorite author is going to be in there but I sure did like the range in suggestions. Looking at it now I wish I had someone from the NWT (not one! for shame) and New Brunswick. Stompin Tom is from New Brunswick but he's also sort of from everywhere.  I could have put the Irvings in there, I think they control history in NB as well as anything else.

I was all crazed out with strep throat while I did this, but listening to Radiolab shows and a burning passion for Canada I guess(?) kept me going.  You can find the image in today's National Post, along with an article about the Historica/Dominion merger! Interesting stuff.

picture is under the cut because it's huge )

On FA, where I found her: http://www.furaffinity.net/user/isabellaprice/

( Another entry about her on here, http://community.livejournal.com/artists_beware/272090.html i figure every entry counts (?) so I'm making my own entry :3 )

It all began, really, around the beginning of July, when the artists in question posted a journal saying that fursuit head bases were $35, and quoted from the journal, July 11th:  "Turnaround time is 1 week-a month. :)".  So i thought 'What a deal! And her examples are seem like good stuff too' So I inquired about shipping (to Canada, i made sure to mention this in my very first note to her), $15, great  sounds reasonable I guess, I really have no concept of these things, and she responded timely and friendly enough that I decided to continue.

From July 11th-July 21st we exchanged notes confirming details, nothing seemed amiss, she responded quickly enough, I'm a busy person so if there was a delay I never took notice.  I never bothered to set a due date at this point, as I wanted it for Halloween, and what with it being July and a turnaround quoted as of being a week to a month, I figured at very worst I'd get it late September, still plenty of time to finish my full suit.

At about this time is when my situation began to sour (now that I look back anyway, at the time I was still very optimistic), I sent payment on July 29th... and heard nothing.
